MULTIVISION WITH DAVID GÖTTLER: ON THE HUNT FOR THE EIGHT-THOUSANDERS

Extreme mountaineer David Göttler has been testing the limits of what is possible for years. In May 2022, he succeeded in climbing Mount Everest solo and without artificial oxygen. On Sunday, November 12, the German alpinist will be appearing at the Alpinmesse with Alpinforum 2023 at Messe Innsbruck.

He will talk about his plan to climb the highest mountains in the world without outside help, without bottled oxygen and without fixed ropes - and about what it is like to have to turn back just a few meters before the finish line. On Saturday, the multivision presentations by Dani Arnold, Laura Tiefenthaler and Alexander Huber are already generating a great deal of interest. Tickets are available in advance online or directly at the trade fair.

Innsbruck, 09.11.2023. Bright sunshine at over 8848 meters above sea level: this is how David Göttler reaches the summit of Mount Everest on 21 May 2022. It is his 3rd attempt to conquer the world's highest mountain in this way. He had to turn back twice before, in 2019 and 2021, because bad weather conditions, traffic jams or insufficient physical condition forced him to do so. Now he's in luck: the good weather continues. The big rush is over. He is alone on the summit. But he doesn't have long to indulge in the feeling of happiness that washes over him as the world lies at his feet. He still has a long way to go. David Göttler will be telling these and other breathtaking stories of his summit victories and pioneering attempts to climb the world's highest mountains on Sunday, November 12, as part of his multivision presentation at the Alpinmesse with Alpinforum 2023. What motivates him to take on such hardships? What goals does he pursue, what role models motivate him, when is the risk too high? The audience can look forward to a captivating lecture and a highly exciting discussion afterwards.

NEW ROUTES UP THE EIGHT-THOUSANDERS - WITHOUT OXYGEN, WITHOUT HELP, EQUIPPED ONLY WITH THE BARE ESSENTIALS

When David Göttler reaches the summit of Mount Everest, it is already the 6th eight-thousander he has climbed without bottled oxygen and outside help. He had previously scaled Gasherbrum II, Broad Peak, Dhaulagiri, Lhotse and Makalu in this way. Göttler is an advocate of the alpinist style, in which climbers travel alone or only in small rope teams, without outside help, without previously prepared routes with fixed ropes or fixed high camps and without artificial oxygen. “It's a purist approach where you face the mountains and the elements as nature intended,” is how David Göttler describes it. In particular, he also develops special acclimatization methods with high mountain training, constantly pushes his limits and yet always listens to reason.

Because the higher the risk, the higher the failure rate. Not all ascents are crowned with success, as Göttler's most recent attempts in the Himalayas show. In January 2023, he and Hervé Barmasse set off on the first winter ascent of an eight-thousander in alpine style. They are the only mountaineers to receive a permit for Dhaulagiri in winter, but have to abandon the mission due to poor weather forecasts. In June, Göttler turns back on the Schell route to Nanga Parbat at just under 7500 meters above sea level. How one deals with having prepared physically and mentally for months and then having to suffer such setbacks - Göttler also describes this in the course of his talk at the Alpinmesse with Alpinforum. One thing is for sure: he is not giving up.

TOP-CLASS MULTIVISION PRESENTATIONS AT THE ALPINMESSE WITH ALPINFORUM 2023: TICKETS AVAILABLE ONLINE IN ADVANCE

In addition to David Göttler, other well-known speakers will also be giving talks at the Alpinmesse with Alpinforum: Dani Arnold, Laura Tiefenthaler and Alexander Huber will be appearing at the Alpinmesse on Saturday, November 11 as part of the Alpinforum and with their multivision presentations. Christoph Heuschneider, Project Manager of the Alpinmesse, is looking forward to the star line-up: “With David Göttler, Dani Arnold, Laura Tiefenthaler and Alexander Huber, not only will the best-known current extreme mountaineers and an innovative newcomer take to the stage at the Alpinmesse with Alpinforum 2023 - visitors will also be presented with four very different approaches to extreme mountaineering. Risk and reason, solo or together, dangerous or fearless - these are all topics that we will get to the bottom of in the presentations.”
