Where wooden boards, hemp ropes and leather shoes were once used, sophisticated technologies are now in use, where just a few grams or millimeters make a decisive difference. Benjamin Raich, Florian Grasel, Max Berger and Lukas Pöstlberger discuss how equipment in mountain sports has changed and what is important when it comes to equipment in their disciplines at the Alpinmesse with Alpinforum 2024.

A brief portrait of the athletes
Benjamin Raich: One of the most successful alpine skiers. In a career spanning almost 20 years, he has won two Olympic gold medals, three world championship titles, 36 World Cup races and the overall World Cup. Today, he commentates ski races on Austrian television and promotes young talent through his Race Center Benni Raich.
Max Berger: Professional alpinist and IFMGA mountain guide, climbed the Grandes Jorasses, Bonatti and Freney Pillars at a young age. This was later followed by expeditions to the highest peaks in the world, most recently Broad Peak and K2, from which he flew down with a paraglider.
Florian Grasel: One of Austria's most successful ultra trail runners. His most recent successes include second place in the 300 km La Petite Trotte à Léon (PTL).
Lukas Pöstlberger: Austrian professional cyclist, made a name for himself in 2017 with a stage win at the Giro d'Italia and winning the Maglia Rosa. He became national champion several times and won stages at prestigious races such as the Critérium du Dauphiné.
