The Alpinmesse with Alpinforum is bringing Swiss extreme mountaineer Dani Arnold to the stage on Saturday, November 11. The record hunter is now not only one of the big names in the alpine scene, but has also been known to a wide audience since the recent release of the Netflix documentary “Duell am Abgrund”. In his lectures, he talks about the world of solo climbing, his successes on the great north faces and his expeditions to the remotest corners of the earth.
Combined with a large number of training courses and workshops, the extensive lecture program and exciting competitions, the format was able to clearly underline its European thematic leadership. Mountain enthusiasts got their money's worth at the top-class impulse and multivision presentations by international extreme mountaineers. Congress Messe Innsbruck (CMI) and the Austrian Board of Trustees for Alpine Safety (ÖKAS) were responsible for the Alpinmesse with the Alpinforum.
Innsbruck, 25.10.2023. With a record time of 2 hours and 28 minutes, Dani Arnold scaled the north face of the Eiger in 2011 at breakneck speed, catapulting himself into the limelight of the international climbing scene overnight. At the beginning of October, the streaming service Netflix released a documentary about his biggest project to date - the solo ascent of all six major north faces in the fastest time. On 11 November, the 39-year-old alpinist will appear at the Alpinmesse with Alpinforum and talk about his alpine milestones, speed records and what goes on in your head when you have nothing but bare rock under your feet hundreds of meters below.
In addition to Dani Arnold, other well-known alpinists will also have their say, such as the talented young Innsbruck mountaineer Laura Tiefenthaler and Alexander Huber, who is one of the best-known and most successful all-round mountaineers of our time. The trio will be giving short talks on solo climbing on Saturday afternoon as part of the Alpine Forum. They will address the question of how solo mountaineering - and its extreme form, the free solo, which involves climbing without any protection - should be assessed: dangerous and life-weary or courageous and fearless? Breakneck action or ultimate adventure? These and other controversial questions will be debated in the subsequent panel discussion. On Saturday evening, the three alpinists will give a multivision presentation in which they will talk in detail about their activities. They will talk about how they have dedicated their lives to the mountains and the challenges they have to overcome in the vertical.
With this top-class line-up of speakers and the many other program items, the Alpinemsse with Alpineforum, which will take place on Saturday and Sunday, 11 and 12 November, manifests its status as Austria's largest and Europe's leading mountain sports fair with specialist conference. Fair Director Christian Mayerhofer is looking forward to the varied program: “The Innsbruck Alpinmesse with Alpinforum provides important impetus for mountain sports. This is where the central mountain sports institutions, multipliers, experts, manufacturers and professional and amateur mountain sports enthusiasts meet to exchange ideas. The Alpinforum focuses on alpine safety and provides information on highly topical issues. We invite all mountain sports enthusiasts to visit the trade fair, get expert tips and experience the varied program.”
